Role Overview

The Field Coordinator is IBL's presence in the community, building and maintaining relationships with smallholder farmers, cooperatives, local government, and community groups. This role ensures that IBL programs are implemented effectively and with dignity at the field level, and requires someone who truly loves working with rural communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of IBL program activities at field level, including farmer training, community workshops, agribusiness support, and ecosystem restoration activities.
  • Mobilize and engage target communities, smallholder farmers, youth agripreneurs, women's groups, and cooperatives.
  • Facilitate participatory community meetings, training sessions, and farmer field school activities.
  • Support the establishment and strengthening of farmer groups, savings groups, and community-based organizations.
  • Coordinate with local government extension officers, ward officials, and village leaders to facilitate program activities.
  • Collect field data using IBL's approved data collection tools (KoBoToolbox, paper forms, etc.) and submit within 48 hours.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to program sites and submit field visit reports within 3 working days.
  • Assist in baseline, mid-term, and end-line data collection surveys.
  • Document and photograph program activities, community stories, and farmer testimonies, with full informed consent.
  • Provide on-the-ground technical advice and facilitation to smallholder farmers on climate-smart agriculture, agroecology, soil health, and sustainable farming practices.
  • Support farmers in adopting improved seed varieties, integrated pest management, post-harvest handling, and market linkages.
  • Facilitate youth agripreneurship activities, including business plan development, market access, and mentorship.
  • Coordinate ecosystem restoration activities, including tree planting, soil conservation, and rainwater harvesting.
  • Ensure IBL's community feedback and complaints mechanism is known, accessible, and trusted by community members.
  • Receive and document community feedback, and escalate complaints to the Program Manager promptly.
  • Uphold IBL safeguarding standards in all community interactions, protecting the dignity and safety of all beneficiaries.
  • Prepare weekly activity reports and monthly field reports for the Program Manager.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, participant lists, and field activity documentation.
  • Manage field petty cash and submit financial records in accordance with IBL Finance Policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of practical field experience in agriculture, rural development, or community mobilization programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with smallholder farmers, farmer groups, or cooperatives in Tanzania.
  • Good understanding of climate-smart agriculture, agroecology, or sustainable farming systems.
  • Experience with youth agripreneurship or women's economic empowerment programs is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in digital data collection tools (KoBoToolbox, ODK, smartphones).
  • Valid driving license (motorcycle at minimum; light vehicle preferred).
  • Fluency in Kiswahili is essential; English working proficiency is required.
